FAQs

  • Independence. I want you to have the best chance of being independent after launch. Squarespace is easy to use once all the content is in place. A training is included in my services.

Security. Squarespace has cost-effective and reliable security built in. SSL Security is included in all price plans.

If instead, you were to hire a designer to custom build your website from scratch (eg. on WordPress.org), you would be responsible for security certificates being valid and functioning, as well as paid for. You would also need to make sure your plugins are inherently waterproof and doesn’t create a safety risk for you, and again - are paid for. This would be a good option if you need a completely custom site, and have an IT-person on staff.

Functionality. Squarespace offers the functionality you are seeking for as a small business, and more. Plus it’s fun to use.

Integration. It is easy to activate third-party-integration, such as MailChimp, Acuity and Instagram, right in Squarespace. Before we start working, we make sure that your current tools are supported.

Getting found. Squarespace websites are built with SEO best practices.

Modern feel. Squarespace is built to serve those who are looking for a clean, modern coherent and professional looking website.

If you have a preference for Wix website builder instead, I am open to discuss this with you.

  • Your timeline depends on the scope and complexity of your project. More so, it depends on your own pace in preparing copy, scheduling that photoshoot and reviewing my concepts. Technically, a project can be done in 2-3 weeks. However, in my experience clients tend to lean towards 2 months from initial meeting to launch. 1-2 months is the time frame I recommend to keep momentum, but to still allow for the unfolding of your own journey. We will decide on a deadline together.

  • You may have a clear vision on content, structure, vibe and visual communication. Or you may want me to run with it. Each client is unique and I will meet you where you are. You don’t have to come with answers. They are part of our process together. I will at a minimum ask for examples of sites and logos by other companies that you resonate with.

  • During build I will consult you on your options when it comes to logo/branding, as well as having professional photos taken. After launch, you may opt for additional training in Squarespace editing and functionality (beyond what’s included).

You will need a domain and a Squarespace plan. My package includes your new domain for the first year*, after that around $20/year is standard. I will consult you on which Squarespace price plan suits your needs. Plans range between $12 - $26 per month for my typical client.

Also consider any subscriptions to of third-party tools you may be using.

*Does not include a domain you already own. Max value $35. The range for affordable domains is $12-$40 annually.

  • Squarespace is a DIY tool. You can build your own site! Squarespace offers templates, design themes and blocks that you can use to customize your site. If you are passionate and wired to learn technology, research web tools and draft designs, you can probably have a basic site up in around 40 work hours spread over a couple of months.

It is quite common that clients, when they engage with me, started building a website on Squarespace or a similar platform, around 6-18 months ago. What I hear them say is either that they get stuck on technical issues and functionality, that they just don’t have the time or left-brain focus to overcome those obstacles, or that the site just didn’t turn out how they envisioned it.

You may also want to ask yourself:

Am I good at organizing information? Do I know what makes a site user-friendly, and what inspires visitors to take action while on my site? Do I have time to learn about and prime for SEO? Do I already have a coherent design profile to pull from? What do you know about safety and privacy on the internet? Are you clear on what platform, web host host and domain combo fit your needs and budget? How do you make sure your site is mobile friendly?

Building your own site is a great option for you if you are (or willing to become!) tech-savvy, if you are not trying to funnel any high-level clients through your site, and if you have more time than money available to you.

If you hire a web designer on the other hand, you may spend your time and energy serving and evolving in the modality you love and know.

Connect with me to discuss this and your other curiosities in my free discovery call.

  • Your first 50% payment is required at time of contract (after our discovery call) to secure your design slot on my calendar. The final 50% is due on the day we launch your website.

  • We will typically be able to start within a week or two of our discovery call. It will depend on my current workload and your preferred timeline but I will make sure you will have a clear idea of start time before signing.
